First, sit down and read the instructions. DO NOT PLUG IN IT UNTIL IT IS FILLED WITH WATER. Obviously, people who complain about burnt smell have missed this important point. There is nothing complicated in this car. You don't buy Mr. Coffee (no offense). It doesn't work like most machines. First there is a reservoir that needs to be filled with water. Holds about two full pots. After slowly filling until the water runs out, you can then turn it on. I have a model with an insulated carafe. I have a switch in the back right. This is referred to as the "holiday switch". If you make your kettle daily, leave it on. If you don't, it will take the same 15 minutes to heat up as the first time. The water is always hot, which is why it boils so quickly. Then it can be switched on (blue LED). This is the normal state of the machine. You will hear a sound when the water is fully heated. It is in order. After 10-15 minutes it will be hot and ready to eat. This is also the normal state of the machine. If you already have a jug, you can fill the carafe with water, pour into the jug and mark the water level. Now you have an easy way to pour the same amount of water every time. The only disappointment was that no pitcher was included. You got used to it years ago. They are also available on Revain. While you're at it, order some Bunn coffee filters. They are half an inch larger than the standard so they don't spill on the floor. The extra height allows the coffee grounds to soak in water longer for a more flavorful drink. Now for the lid. You obviously can't pour water without lifting the lid. After using the BUNN filter and adding the usual amount of coffee you prefer, pour water into the machine. Below the screen you will see the steps marked for the number of cups you wish to brew (maximum 10). As soon as you close the lid, the internal valve opens and the brewing process begins. In three minutes you have hot coffee. The brew basket has no valve, so be sure to check that the brewing process has finished before removing the jug. Enjoy!
