This lamp has a real illumination of 700 lumens and very good, even light distribution. But the batteries are very noisy. I removed the batteries to add tape to remove the rattle and didn't know how to put the batteries back in as they don't have any markings on them. Thinking they were connected in series I plugged in one small metal end and the other large one - a big mistake as the batteries would immediately heat up and die. With a new set of batteries, I've found that both small diameter metal ends go in first (connected in parallel I think). Then I found that one press turns off the light. Only after stretching the springs by +5 mm was I able to establish a reliable connection. I then ran a life test and found the maximum setting worked for 2 hours followed by an automatic reduction to the minimum setting which ran an additional hour - excellent performance in my book with 4 year batteries. It is very difficult to get out of the bracket, but with practice it will become easier. Not sure if the tongue will eventually break, but so far so good. Bottom line: plan on gluing the batteries to hold the rattle in place while noting the orientation of the battery and then you should have a great light!
