This is a very handsome bag, and it does feel like leather. The colors on it are perfect and tend towards the western style that's really popular. The "saddle bag" side has working zippers on each side so, when zipped open, it turns into sort of a pass through. I think it's a nice place for a cell phone. The interior is roomy like a large purse. I can see fitting an iPad in there, but I don't see fitting files in there, which is what I associate with a work tote.
