1/2" Timberline Plunge Chisel, at first glance the fit and finish seemed excellent with Timberline markings laser etched on the shank. When installing in my groove and drilling the first groove the wood smoked and it was very difficult to cut. Then I sharpened the already sharp chisel and put it back in place and drilled another hole with the same result. Then I removed the drill bit and installed it in my drill press and drilled a hole in the same block of wood where the Wood started smoking. It turned out that the drill bit was not sharpened at the correct angle. So I did my best with a diamond milling stone to correct the angle and sharpen the bit. Reinstalled in a drill press and successfully drilled a hole , without smoke, albeit with plenty of heat.Reinstall in a mortiser for another attempt at a square sc to make his hole. The results were not unexpected: the well was successfully completed with a large accumulation of heat. I know dip bits get pretty hot, but they shouldn't get that hot. Conclusion - the drill was not sharpened properly. I think you get what you pay for, although with the name Amanda associated with the brand, I was expecting more. Ultimately, I cannot recommend this product. Maybe I just got a bad one, that's your $20, good luck.
