Review on Enhanced Sony SAL18250 Alpha DT 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 High Magnification Zoom Lens by Michael Sharp

Still Close

This is a replacement for a Sony SAL18250 lens that I have owned for over a dozen years but has developed some internal fogging due to humidity which is an unfortunate aspect of the South Florida climate. Tokai Camera Shop delivered it here after about 2 weeks with enough bubble wrap to wrap a crystal vase. It was in perfect condition and didn't look restored in any way. Even the bayonet was unmarked. The cost of restoring my old lens is about the same as what I paid for this lens. They even included a proper Sony lens case, a very nice touch. Digital photography is reserved for cellphone cameras today, but even the best of them can never match the range you can get from one of those folding guns. Also, no phone camera can grant ASP-C camera permissions. 24 megapixels on an iPhone is NOT 24 megapixels on a DSLR. Since Sony has pretty much discontinued their Alpha series cameras and lenses, at least for the average consumer, good used/remanufactured lenses from a trusted seller can save lives. This lens can be a little heavy, but its versatility makes it a great lens for all-day trips. It's slow (requires lots of light) for indoor use, but with a little practice, even tiny built-in flashes can produce sharp images with this lens.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Modern

Great lens. I prefer this one over most.
