Review on Makin's USA 35055: The Ultimate Clay Extruder for Professional Artistic Creations by Tara Ford

Revainrating 2 out of 5

I don't know anything about this thing.

I bought this set to work with lipstick and gum paste. At first I was excited. No more hand rolling uneven strips! I knew this product was intended for use with clay and expected there would be some difficulties based on that fact and the reviews I had read previously. So I'll get straight to the point. The Pro basically gets the job done better than if you were to do it without tools. Imagine driving a school bus without power steering. If you have a lot of patrols to do, you can organize a squadron or schedule a tunnel-to-tunnel operation shortly after. Cannot be thoroughly cleaned. In fact, you can safely clean only the discs and the cap. If water enters the mine, it stays there indefinitely. Water = not conducive to working with sugar. Leaves a black film on the pressed product. This black oily substance seems to regenerate itself. You would think it would start to dissipate after about 30 uses. You would be wrong. Since you're not exactly sure what it is, just throw away a bunch of lipstick. By not being able to clean the tool properly, the lipstick pieces will harden inside. Ultimately, this leads to total failure. For me it was when I was making a cake that looked like spaghetti and meatballs. I cranked this "noodles" and the whole cob fell apart. I've never seen metal parts break like egg shells. It was very uncomfortable but exciting. I'll finish with that. I've never pushed clay through this extruder, but I can't imagine it being any easier than soft fondant. I'm a pretty positive person, so I suggest a silver lining. I got about 40 mostly decent uses in 10 months. I found it rated ok for the use I got from it. mmm This shade of green is beautiful to look at. That's all. I hope I have better luck with another brand.

Pros
