This product opens the lid by itself but is not as described. These struts are so strong that the flies open with such force that it is dangerous to be near them when they open and could kill someone if their chin is over it when opening. This product is dangerous and I will not be able to use it! Don't believe the description, it's not gentle at all. It forces the hood to open with great force and will likely break the hinges over time. I wanted to go back but I wasn't in town and couldn't try them until the window was closed or I'd be really pissed that they didn't work as advertised.
