Review on πŸ“ Accurate Measurements Made Easy: Steelex D3383 Precision Square 4 Inch by Jason Vigil

Milling and roughing is not safe

I was looking for a small, handy and accurate square that could be used as the main tool in my home machine shop. Unfortunately this is not what I wanted. Although this square is actually a "square" (tested on block 1-2-3), it's so poorly made that I doubt I'll ever use it. All edges have "dangerously sharp" ground edges. None of the edges have been bevelled. While the edges are square, they have sharp, jagged edges from milling and machining. It's not something I want to keep in my apron pocket for fear of cutting my hand if I reach for it. Also, the base feels unnecessarily heavy for a product of this size. It could be made much thinner without changing accuracy or function. Strangely the square didn't come in the branded factory packaging that others had posted. Mine came in a plain green box with no tags. Nothing indicates that it is Steelex Precision Square. I wouldn't buy this again. I cannot recommend this to others. I would return it but for €8 it's not worth the time and effort. I would be interested in buying a similar product at twice the price if it was made better without dangerously sharp edges.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
