It sounded better at a distance than some of my multi-hundred-dollar mics.

Full disclosure, I was sent a demo unit to test; I'm an audio engineer at a fancy YouTube studio with expensive and cheap microphones. This mic held up pretty well compared to my MXL peripheral mic, but it didn't do as well as my new NW-401 ($50) cardioid pen capsule mic. The built-in noise cancellation on this mic is pretty poor, but you can disable it by pressing and holding the blue LED button for 3 seconds. The stand and pop filter are $15, so keep that in mind when evaluating the mic. The echo effect on the mic just isn't usable, I would use a fixed rotary encoder with a few preset effects. From afar, my MXL 3000 large-diaphragm mic didn't sound very good, it was too bass-heavy. A large-diaphragm condenser always sounds better up close, but it gets muddy when you get about 8 inches closer to it. The MXL's frontier mic always left something to be desired, but the DAC was of high quality. I didn't find the DAC on this unit very good, the ADC was of better quality. At distance you will need a video mic or an edge mic, so such a mic is a good choice depending on your budget. In direct comparison it works above its weight and I use a pop filter on my pen mic. I found the mic works best if you flip it so the mic is pointing down at a 45 degree angle towards me. This minimized the USB cable in my monitor and you don't have to use a pop screen, you can use a wind screen. I would advise you to use either a pop screen or a wind screen, but not both. I would deduct a star for the inferior effects but it also exceeded its weight on the mics I compared, not perfect but if I were a parent looking for a mic for my child this would be a solid one. .

Pros
  • Brilliantly done
Cons
  • Volume
