The coat fits figure-hugging thanks to the Velcro fastener and coat cut. We wouldn't want it much bigger. It is ideal to have a zip on the back of the jacket for a seat belt buckle, as well as a buttonhole above it if we decide to use a collar. It's not very thick, but since we live in California where nights can get into the 40's and 30's, the coat should keep our pup warm when he goes outside to do his business. Our dog has short hair and sheds a lot. He seems to be working on the hot side.
