Love My Bunn!: Coffee, Tea & Espresso

I bought a Bunn BXB Velocity Brew to replace my old 1989 Bunn that was starting to leak from the bottom. Yes, 1989. My coffee pot was only a few years younger than me and I loved this thing. But it was leaking so I figured I was done with it and ordered this Bunn to replace it. The first two I received were either broken or scratched so I sent them back. The 3rd time was charming though because the 3rd that arrived didn't have any broken, scratched or anything else that I could discern. Also, there is no smell of burning like other people. This is not normal and if you have a problem like this I recommend sending it back. We set it up and so far it's working like Bunn should. However, I would like to note that after the initial setup, quite a bit of water continued to drip from the nozzle. I poured another pot of water and it stopped dripping. I no longer had problems with dripping from the sink. If you're new to Bunn, you should know... - This doesn't look like your typical standard coffee maker. I saw a lot of complaints and low ratings in reviews because some people didn't really understand what they were buying. You shouldn't give bad reviews if a product does what it's supposed to do. Which brings me to my next points… - The Bunn coffee maker keeps and heats the water in the tank 24/7. So you have coffee or hot water in 2-3 minutes. I have used the 1989 Bunn for many years. I assure you that it is safe and you can leave the house or sleep without unplugging it. We only turn it off when we're away from home for a few days. As the water heats up, it also evaporates, so the water level can drop if you don't use it for a few days. - Despite the fact that it heats water 24/7, the electricity bill does not increase significantly. To test this, I went to my power panel on the FPL and looked at my daily power consumption since going a week without a bun while waiting for a new one. During the week there is no difference in power consumption. I hadn't bandaged Bunn. - Since it heats water 24/7, it's not the best coffee pot for those who don't plan to use it every day or every other day. Here, too, the water evaporates slowly. Why I love my bunny... - I'm not a morning person and I'll have a hot coffee in a few minutes. This is very fast compared to your standard coffee maker. - It keeps the water hot but not boiling so I can drink my coffee as soon as it's ready. - You get as much water as poured. Ideal when I only need a little hot water. What do I use my bunn for besides coffee… - Hot water for tea and hot chocolate - Hot water for washing - Hot water for cooking (especially bouillon cubes or other powdery sauce mixes that need to be mixed with hot water) What I wear Not like my Banna ... - Emptying the tank is no fun - Cleaning the tank is no fun either - Both take much longer than cleaning a standard coffee pot. - What I don't like about this new model is that the nozzle that comes with the coffee maker comes out so quickly that you can't make decaffeinated coffee. That's why people shoot coffee grounds out of a basket. This is a big mistake on the part of the company, even if it is a problem. I should be able to make decaf coffee without worrying about it overflowing or wasting money on some other part. My old Bunn brewed decaffeinated and finely ground coffee with no problem, so I expected the same with this one. a nozzle that should be included in the coffee maker from the start. Overall I'm happy with this bunn so far, although I don't think it will last as long as my old one. I hope the amount I paid for this item was what I expected but if not I have a backup as my husband fixed my 1989 ban and it's working perfectly again now :) ** *UPDATE 1 /11/ 18*** I was planning on upgrading in a year but our mobile home in the Lower Florida Keys was hit head on by Irma and I was pretty sure my bunn was dead. Miraculously the house and my bunn survived! The house was shaking so bad my microwave was on the floor when I got home, but this guy didn't move an inch! Even the carafe was there! Even after all the trauma my poor Bunn has been through, he weathered the storm. It still works great and is in perfect condition. No bad smells, and I've never had an overflow, even when brewing decaffeinated Folgers. And this while using the standard nozzle that came with the kit. I also had no issues with the nozzle dripping water when it wasn't supposed to. Actually I had no problems. That works great. I have my routine. I pour water to make coffee. I take my coffee mug and add cream and sugar. stir. By the time I do that, my coffee is usually ready. Just to give you an idea of how fast it is! I also know a few people have asked, but my husband and I can't remember how he kept my 1989 ban from expiring. But it still rocks :)
