I originally ordered this smart socket because of its high configurability, allowing to replace modules for orientation lights, USB ports, temperature sensor, motion sensor, etc. With at least two different modules I've used, Swidget Smart Socket has lived up to its billing! The socket is a regular "dumb" socket until you buy a smart module insert. Smart module inserts (sold separately) allow you to use different sensors, connectors (rails, USB, etc.), measure power consumption and switch the bottom output on and off via the Swidget app. The top socket "always" stays on. The Swidget app can be downloaded for Android and iOS. Installation: The Swidget jack comes with a wall plate, wiring nuts, screws and instructions. Consult your local electrician if you have questions about wiring but the wire insulation is already pre-stripped. The physical installation is similar to most other smart light switches. Once installed, you will need a smart module to install the outlet and associated software. If you have a smart module, just plug it in and follow the Swidget app's instructions. After the full installation, you can use the application to measure electricity consumption and control one of the sockets. I used a wifi module so I could connect to an outlet via wifi and once connected a firmware update was applied. There are other modules you can purchase from Swidget for Z-Wave and other features. I would suggest that Swidget cut the wire insulation a little longer as I had to remove another 1/4 inch to make sure the nuts would hold. GREAT! They provided me with explanations and solved my problems very quickly via email! Bottom Line: Making your outlets customizable is a great idea. I like the control and information you can get from the intelligent modules. Some small things sometimes the software lags in communicating with the smart module so you may have to send the command twice to turn something on or off. The biggest problem is the cost as you have to buy the smart module and socket separately. I would recommend them in the package. At least the wifi controller, so the smart plug is really smart when you get it. Overall I like the controls, the information, the setup isn't too difficult and I think the plugs look great! Update after 1 week of use : on Smart -Insert has a reset button that you press to perform specific actions such as reset and detection. However, when you connect the charger to the top connector, which "hangs" down, the reset button is pressed. You just have to plug it into the bottom charger, but you may have charging adapters that get in the way of the reset button. This was really my only issue with usage as far as the power consumption data was interesting. Update after 1 month of use: With the USB plug I bought, the connection between socket and plug is not as reliable as I would like. in a separate USB socket. So if you are firmly connected to the USB port plug insert and try to remove the inserted cable, the USB insert module will feel loose when you remove the USB cable. Doesn't feel sturdy enough.
