Great cutting board. Just right for a serious cooking education.

We watched Gordon Ramsay's cooking videos and talked about how some of our 20 year old plastic cutting boards are badly worn. Ramsay only used one wooden plank in his workshops so I was keen to purchase a replacement plank based on his stated preference. Then Revane Vine offered me this and. Well, of course I wouldn't say "no"! In short, I couldn't have asked for a better cutting board. All items on my wish list fit. He's healthy in a good way. Although the board comes with a silicone mat to keep the board from slipping, I've never needed one. The weight of the board keeps it in one place. For some reason it's easier to cut something on this board than on a plastic board; I can't say exactly why. It's big, which is also a plus. It's big enough to handle all the ingredients for a meal in one place. Due to its size, I had to rearrange the kitchen a bit to make room for the chalkboard, but it was time for the task anyway. (For what it's worth: I use an office file organizer in the kitchen, which helps me keep all my cutting boards upright, easy to pull out when I want, rather than stacking one on top of the other.) The cutting board is built-in Grooves are just right. They're not big enough for food to slide in, making slicing food difficult, but they're handy for making sure juicy foods (like tomatoes) don't drip off the board and onto the counter. And while it doesn't matter in the slightest, the beech wood finish feels nice under my hands. I appreciate that the wood is from a sustainable source! The board instructions suggest using a plastic board for chicken and meat since plastic boards are dishwasher safe; I took that advice. That means it has to be cleaned manually. So far it's been easy enough - just wipe it down - but I haven't prepared anything that will prove awkward or scary, like a bunch of chili peppers. I'm sure I'll whine about it at some point. but not much because it is such a pleasure to use. I am very happy with this cutting board. I bet you will too.
