They work and are disassembled for cleaning

I bought two of these filters. One for each of my two small tanks (10 and 15 gallons). Both have live plants, 2-3 small goldfish, 2 measles, some tetras and shrimp. The filters in the aquariums worked well until the goldfish were added. The water gradually turned yellowish and green algae grew. The filters can be completely dismantled, so I took them apart, removed the biofilter stones from both compartments and added charcoal. Since then the water has been clear (3 months have passed). I have more respect for those $10 filters than I do for my $300 UV light filter that keeps my 50 gallon aquarium running. The only complaint is that they are very buoyant. They work well, they are easy to clean and the filter media can be changed and adjusted to a certain extent. I've noticed that some buyers have stated that they actually only filter the top compartment as the bubbles only go into that compartment. The filter media in the two bottom compartments contained the same amount of debris as their counterparts in the top compartment when I rinsed them. I bought a 2 stage filter to replace a 1 stage filter (of the same brand/design) because it wasn't holding up. The two-stage design proved to be better. The top filter material gets dirty faster than the bottom one, so wait a few weeks before jumping to conclusions.
