Help yourself stay hydrated in very hot weather

Sqwincher is an electrolyte supplement with sodium, potassium and vitamin C in a sachet that holds 16-20 ounces water is added. I first discovered it many years ago because I was volunteering at a national park in Death Valley over the summer and it was taken to the field to add to our drinking water. I've always found it effective. You can recognize when you are falling behind due to electrolyte imbalances; No matter how much water you drink, if you don't replenish the minerals lost through sweat, your brain function will deteriorate, you can become disoriented, tired, and eventually lose muscle control. A few sips of Sqwincher water would cheer me up quickly. We walk in the park in temperatures that can reach 125°C and there are rules about the times when we can do light, medium or heavy work, the times we have to respect. indoors or in an air-conditioned vehicle, alone or with a partner, to control heat sickness and prevent dehydration. But you can't stay hydrated with water alone, and just eating salt or gorging on potato chips is unhealthy. When I came back this summer there was no Sqwincher so I ordered some from Revain for myself and 3 other park volunteers. I would love to be able to afford that for everyone in my unit. I ordered it on Saturday and I believe it shipped from Mississippi and it was in my mailbox five days later in Death Valley which is a very remote place. I didn't get feedback from everyone, but a colleague said it really worked. He joked that it might be a placebo effect, but felt it energized him as he fell behind. No, this isn't a placebo, it's a quick ingestion of nutrients sufficient to keep you going. If it works for us in Death Valley, it will probably work anywhere people have to work hard and lose a lot of important minerals through their pores.

Pros
  • Absorbs much faster than water
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
