Terrible smell! for aquarium pumps and filters

We have been using the Coralife Biocube Filter for YEARS with no problems until yesterday. They did a water change and installed a new filter. After a few hours, a horrible smell came out of my tank (like diesel fuel). We pulled out the filter and it's his fault. The second filter in the bag also smelled awful. My fragile starfish is looking shady and my bubble anemone is shriveled up, I hope I don't lose everything in my tank.
