Spacers required if your mattress requires a flat base

The frame is easy to assemble and the metal is very strong. Due to the construction, the slats are curved. For my 130# wife who sleeps on her back they have very little flex. For me, at 200 pounds and sleeping on my side, they sag about 1/4 to 1/2 inch, give or take. This causes 2 problems. Problem 1 - A metal rod does not bend like wood. creates an uneven lying surface that causes back pain in the morning. Problem 2: In my research on mattresses, I couldn't find anyone who said that the base should do more than be flat, firm, and supportive. The base must not sag. To solve this problem I simply put two by four boards under my side of the bed as in the picture. Replacing the planks won't be easy as they are 3 inches wide and only 1/2 inch thick. Standard planks are 3.5" x 1" planks. You'll need custom boards and even solid wood to make this thing flexible. Another solution would be to lay solid wood slats on top of the frame across the entire bed and then place the mattress on top of the slats. Mounting under the bed was cheaper and easier in my opinion. Now I'm happy with my frame because I found a way to fix what I believe to be a design issue. It should be noted that my wife has never had any problems as she is a much lighter person.
