Review on πŸ“· Desmond DMH-2 & 50mm DAC-X1 Tripod Tilt Head with Arca/RRS Compatible Clamp and Oversized Knob by Dave Sidhu

Very durable, Best in the Camera & Photo Category

This is a nice pan head and a very solid construction. The clamp is secure and supports the security screws to prevent your camera from accidentally falling. The 3/8" base thread attaches securely to my Thing Alan tripod monopod. It can also be attached with an Arca style base, but I can't think of a use case. The tilt knife is beautiful and powerful and snaps easily into place. The reason I deducted a star is because I can't adjust the friction evenly throughout the head travel. If I tilt the device down and set the friction to smooth, if I point it up the friction becomes too much to allow movement. This indicates that the thickness of the sliding plate is not uniform. I may just have a bad copy, but I suspect it's a problem in the manufacturing process. I could probably take it apart and sand it down to the same thickness, but that would remove the black anodized finish and make it look terrible afterwards. For the price this is a reasonable product and I will learn to live with the friction control issue. I use this product with a 100mm knot guide mounted on an arca plate when using short lenses. This allows me to mount L-bracket cameras in both portrait and landscape orientations. The node plate also helps center the balance of the camera.
