This is normal with radar detectors

First of all I was on holiday and had to replace the windshield mount for my Escort Passport Max 2 radar detector due to a broken fastener. After looking around and realizing that my options for what I could get quickly and affordably were slim (the OEM escort mount was 3 times larger and I didn't know when I would get it), I decided to try this mount. Immediately after installation I noticed that the mount could barely support the weight of the radar detector. No matter how hard I twisted the knob (remember the Gopro-style knob), the radar detector slowly began to slide down. I believe this is partly due to its design and the materials that make up the mount. The part of the bracket that attaches to the windshield is made entirely of plastic (solid, shiny, smooth), while the part that attaches the radar is made of metal. To combat this and create a little "friction" for a better grip, I had to use the whole MacGyver and use a nail file to crimp the contact surfaces on both parts of the mount and then twist the handle down very hard. It "seems" to help, at least during our trip home from Colorado. Facing the sun for 5-6 hours a day, the mount finally gave up and started melting the windshield. What makes that weird is that the day it happened was nowhere near the hottest day we've had in nine months. My 2 cents would be to avoid this product and buy an OEM branded mount.
