decent little corded scanner, continuous mode different than what I'm used to

Our barcode scanners in the school library are getting very old. They're pre-USB, so we'll need an adapter to even connect to a USB port. They have extra long twisted pair cables and a continuous mode where the beam stays on and there is a permanent red line on the meter. This Netum wired USB scanner is easy to use if you just want to use the trigger. It was plug and play. It comes with a barcode book for changing scanner settings. I wanted to put it in continuous mode, so I scanned the barcode that said "Continuous" on page 4 of the book. It transitioned from using the trigger to multiple flashes in a row, followed by a brief pause of a few seconds, and then flashing the beam. So it's not a fixed beam that's lit and waiting for a barcode, it just keeps working. The included stand is fairly stable and easy to assemble. It has no height adjustment but is flexible so the scanner can be tilted. If your computer is nearby, the cable is long enough. I have a desk which I believe has a short cord but I can move the stand to the counter and use it that way. It seems inexpensive and a good entry-level barcode scanner. You have many options for this scanner including wireless and Bluetooth options to suit your needs. This one is just wired. Note. Don't throw away the booklet with all the barcodes to change the settings.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Only available in black

Doesn't scan older QR CODES.
