I recently replaced my dishwasher. The original dishwasher was wired directly, which I think is a very silly way to install a dishwasher. I think the same thing about the direct wired garbage chute. I installed an old working electrical box and standard outlet behind the dishwasher where the Romex cord came out of the wall. If the power cord I bought with the dishwasher had a 90 degree plug it would have been fine, but it was a straight plug which didn't allow the dishwasher to be mounted close enough to the wall and still be complete fit under the counter. Buying this $5 cord worked perfectly because I didn't have to buy a $20 angled AC dishwasher cord or move an electrical box I had installed in the wrong place.
