For $20, this is one piece of equipment you should always have on hand around the house. It's pretty simple, but it's possible to do it manually or with a drill press. I had to modify mine because the end was too big to fit through the kitchen sink drain due to the design of the drain. I used my factory vise to make the end smaller and it worked fine. Some tips: 1) Loosen the thumbscrew and manually propel the auger down the drain, working back and forth while negotiating sharp turns or obstacles. 2) Be sure to use safety goggles if you've used a chemical drain cleaner before. 3) When you feel like you've reached an obstacle (let the water run down the drain with the snail still in it and you should see some water flow down as you puncture a hole in the clog hit). 4) Tighten the thumbscrew and connect the drill bit and while pulling out (working back and forth) rotate the drill bit. 4) When reloading the cylinder, wipe clean and spray some WD40 on the wire. 5) Postpone to another day. 6) Send your plumber a Christmas card.
