Our sofa is not next to the wall due to the apartment configuration, but we need a large charging station next to it because we like to work on our laptops/iPads next to the couch, also sometimes we need to charge our phones or switches etc. I didn't want to run a power strip in series with a power strip as that could start a fire. and that's it, so it plugs straight into the socket in the wall and reaches where we want it, next to the sofa. We run it under our mat, which isn't very thick, so we still sometimes feel the cord when we step on it, but that's to be expected and we don't care because we're putting it under something we're not stepping on . The distance between sockets is long, charging boxes in general are now so large that sockets on ordinary power strips are wasted. Surge protection is good too considering we charge all our expensive electronics here.
