October 2019 Everything is fine. My checks are from Artistic (side cracks) and fit perfectly. The registration didn't slide all the way through, so it was in the area where you put the stylus down. So I cut off 1/8" of the panel that slides into the lid pocket and now it fits perfectly. I don't know what company the registration came from, but it's an old one I had on hand. But it works As for the grip. Your favorite Pilot G2 will do, but they are thicker than the combo checks and registers, so they are thicker when closed. I switched to the cross grip and it's perfect. As for the smell It does NOT smell like cheap leather, especially cheap leather. Leather. It smells like you're walking into that leather shop in the mall. Or maybe you're walking past a large selection of women's handbags in a department store. Smells wonderful if you ask me .Other/Genuine The sticker on the bottom says it's an Indian product but that says nothing if you're wondering what animal this leather came from.Oh yes it's very soft!All Threads look good and ic h it can not find any defects anywhere. I think Top Tears would work too (it has a pocket) but maybe no room for a pen. But I switched to sidechecks a long time ago and use them all the time. So this lid works well and costs little more than buying a plastic lid.
