What it is: a cluster of hollow steel pillars bolted together, so it's no wonder they chime like bells - there are actually four bells on each stand and all on the same level. These are 8 chimes that resonate in sympathetic vibration when the music hits that note. But if you fill the pillars with sand and something mysterious, each pillar is different (like a big stick in one, maybe sand-mixed glue in another, some cinnamon rolls and a good slice of blueberry pie in the third, maybe tuna sandwich.. .sorry I must be hungry) then they don't call anymore. When full, they are strong, stable, and heavy enough that they no longer jingle when tapped with a knuckle. You can buy enough "Play Sand" at the store for about $8. Each of them weighs around 75 pounds when full, so lay them down and then eat a slice of blueberry pie or a cinnamon roll (or two, with coffee, of course) before placing the speakers on top. The parts fit together well, the instructions are good, all fasteners - and even the Allen key - are included. (What? For that price you were expecting anodized or maybe baked enamel?) They look so good I think they could be a little smug. You can refuse to be forced to hold inferior speakers.
