Installation was a simple task - just plug it in and connect your device. It's the communication part that can be intimidating for those not used to it. A couple of things: Make sure that you have a strong enough WiFi network, make sure your smartphone or tablet is connected to the same WiFi network (if you have multiple routers), be patient, be prepared to connect manually if the automatic one doesn't work (know your WiFi SID and password) and once installed, wait for firmware updates for your Wemo Smart Plug (which might make you think you've done something wrong - just be patient). If you haven't installed the device yet, make sure your wireless router is up to date and has the latest specifications for IoT (Internet of Things) or you will be disappointed be. I have four of these Belkin Wemo connectors, two Belkin wall switches and I'm not disappointed at all. Once you plug it in - it works great! I use this with my iPhone, iPad and Google Home. As long as your internet connection is working, this will work. I recommend this to my tech friends who speak Geek. I don't recommend this to my mother, who still refers to DVDs as "cassettes".
