At the time I ordered this camera, black, there were about 300 reviews, all of which I read. I think some people had legitimate complaints, but after trying 3 other small 5x zoom cameras, 2 Samsung and Fuji for about half the price of Canon, despite some negative comments I decided to give the Canon Elph 520 to try. I was also intrigued by the 12x optical zoom in such a small package. I have two other cameras that I use but wanted a more portable/pocket camera but didn't want to lose the higher zoom that I need for bird shots from time to time. I took about 160 pictures, including several videos, and wired many of the shots to my laptop. I also used the mini SD card in a memory card reader to transfer photos to my iPad and laptop. Everything is working well. The SD card is a bit small, but actually not that difficult to use, but you have to be careful when working with this coin-sized card. Picture quality was amazing, with great colors and crisp, clear images. I haven't experienced any of the softness or graininess that some people report. I set it to P mode for ISO 200 and Auto mode for Auto ISO. If there is a question about graininess of photos, I use P mode and a tripod. But for now I'm just really happy with the performance of this camera and it's going to be my #1 camera. I wouldn't call it a downside, but there's no manual aperture, shutter speed or focus controls, so really creative people win. They're not happy about it, but they can buy another camera instead of complaining about this one. I'm also not a big fan of Canon's bundled software. I took good photos in the light of our street lamp and also got a good shot of the moon. This is a small 1/2/3 sensor camera that's above its pay grade thanks to the help of Digic 4+. The charger I received is a small box with a latch on the back. It connects easily and cleans up neatly. The charger has a separate indicator light that shows when charging is complete. I love this feature. With one of the cameras I tried, I wondered when the battery would run out. My other camera is an old Canon SX 120 IS that I've been using for a long time and the new Elph 520 takes very similar pictures (maybe a little better). I love this camera.
