Review on Akai CE2000 CD Boombox: Powerful Sound and Versatile Features by Kathleen Good

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Has AM but has a DSP based tuner so it's difficult to pick up the frequency.

Setting the frequency is difficult because this unit uses a DSP-based tuner. The tuner is analog. So if you're trying to tune into an AM or FM station, regardless of the station's power, you'll have to jump back and forth until the tuner "allows" you to tune into the frequency you want. They chose this configuration because a fully digital tuner costs more and they want to make as much money as possible. The CD player is average, only the radio gets really loud with a faulty DSP based tuner (get it) as far as I remember the aux input is pretty loud, as subjective as it sounds, that's the only reason i have it Bought this 4 years ago I didn't think the radio was a big deal but when I saw it was $20 less than I paid I wanted to dive into this unit a bit it requires 9 "C" - Batteries so now I know why the unit doesn't turn off when the volume is set to full, with 12 volts as the base voltage the radio and audio probably have dedicated current flows so they don't starve the oscillator's VCO (voltage controlled oscillator). the necessary voltage for operation without switching off at maximum volume. So if you decide to buy this, don't buy it for the radio, buy it as an accessory or "CD" player.
