I have previously had a much more expensive carbon monoxide alarm and found that the expected lifespan is typically around 7 years. I didn't need all those fancy LED indicators, battery gauges, spare batteries etc as I end up throwing them away after they show EOL on the display. This time I choose something simple like this. The detector is like a fire alarm. It comes with a back plate that can be mounted to a wall or ceiling and then simply rotated to fix it. The battery is not replaceable, but as previously mentioned, the carbon monoxide detection chemical will most likely be depleted before the battery dies. It took me about 3 minutes to install. No setting is made and the green LED flashes after activation. It stops glaring a minute after settling. You can also test the alarm by pressing and holding the test button. It turns red/orange and beeps quite loudly. It's loud enough to cover the whole house. I am very satisfied with the sound level and its simplicity.
