This pre-filter is a bit too big for my purposes; it dominates the back corner of my 20 gallon. It would be ideal if there was a smaller version. Aside from simply taking over real estate, this is another semi-obvious eyesore to draw attention away from plants and fish. (I intentionally planted a lot of plants around it to partially hide it.) This seems to do a great job of slowing down the rate at which the filter tube becomes clogged with silt. Plus, the pre-filter itself is surprisingly low-maintenance; doesn't require a weekly flush like some of the other pre-filters I have. I believe this pre-filter uses polyester foam that has just the right porosity to capture large particles but doesn't clog easily as a result. Overall this is a positive improvement for my tank as it reduces maintenance frequency. I just wanted it to be more attractive and not so big.
