Not the best option for unusually shaped tanks.

So this works really well and once you figure out the angle you need to hold the tube at to start vacuuming it's very good. Just think about the size of your tank. I only have 1 gallon so it sucked out almost all of the water before I could even half clean the gravel. Also, my tank has weird angles so it's difficult to even start the cutting process. I had to go for a siphon with a pump... It could have worked better

Holds up great under heavy use

I use this siphon to service 5 reservoirs a week. Before the tanks were looped I used this siphon sometimes on a daily basis. It held up great and I would recommend it to anyone with a smaller (3-5 gallon) tank. It takes some time to get used to how it works and how best to hold it, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy. The only criticism I would like to make is that it sucks up any soil or sandy substrate very easily. It is best to use larger aquarium gravel that cannot get into…

It's excellent but be careful with the shrimp.

At first I thought it was crap but after several tries it turned out great. I have a 7 1/2 gallon Aquon shrimp tank with GloFish. The clamp is great for holding the water hose in the bucket. It soaks up the substrate, which surprised me since it's heavier than gravel. During my adventures with the vacuum cleaner, I sucked out a shrimp. I saved :). Be careful, keep an eye on the bucket because you can get so focused on cleaning the tank that my little bucket almost overflows before you even know

Received used item, parts are missing.

When I bought this I had no idea I was getting a used product. The only reason I didn't give 1 star is because I got it so cheap. But there was still no indication that it would be a used item. It's also missing a hose clamp, so I'm hoping I won't have any trouble attaching it. The item I received had dried wet stains all over the tube and the packaging was already open so it was clearly used. I would be grateful if I knew that it is in use and that an item is missing. I don't have time to…

Quick, easy, clean and done

Many years ago I gave up my 50 gallon fresh water tanks. A few weeks ago my grandparents gave me 5 goldfish in a tiny bowl. I ran to get my old 5 gallon tank that I still hold on to when the boys won goldfish at the carnival a few years ago. A few days later the tank fogged up and I went insane. We had already lost two fish and I didn't want to lose another. I'll check here in a moment to see if they have a vacuum cleaner for such a small aquarium. I have used the larger one in a large aquarium

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Not bad

This product meets the needs of small aquarium owners and serves its intended purpose quite well. Having a 2.5 gallon freshwater aquarium with goldfish (yes, I now know it's not the best environment for goldfish) is very important for keeping the water clean. Since I don't have a filter, I do daily water changes of about 25% and use this mini siphon about once a week to siphon off any food or waste that has collected at the bottom of the tank. I used it for the first time yesterday on a 75%…

The mini size is a really nice little sucker!

I have an aquarium. It's 3 gallons and has a goldfish and his moss ball inside. Each week, this fish produces a large amount of feces. While I have an electric filter for a little guy/girl, it doesn't do anything for poop. I tried a gravel cleaner (it even had a scraper but it was powered by a hand pump) - it didn't clean the gravel. Whatever he could suck up came right back as soon as I dragged the business end above the water level (then erupting everywhere). I bought this in a desperate…

KILLED MY FEMALE BETTA! ZERO STARS!

DO NOT buy this if you have nano tanks! I have had the original Aqueon Mini Siphon for many, many years. This was a life saver as it was self inflating and was perfect for emptying all of my small (2.5-5 gallon) tanks that were difficult to manoeuvre. Well it finally broke after being used hundreds of times (the plastic hose handle that attached to the siphon broke off) so I broke this one to use it (I bought this a while ago just for the case). First, the hose is MUCH larger. The suction power

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities

  • Having problems

Good size siphon for my 5 gallon battle tank. Several reviews said it drained the tank too quickly or was difficult to start. Here's how I do it. So we all know that water flows down a slope, but in reality water flows up a siphon when the end of the pipe is below the top of the pipe and no water enters. You can hold your thumb on the bottom to stop and start the flow as needed. No need to suck water through the hose with your mouth if you simply fill it with water before placing it in the…
