Review on πŸ”² Silver 30-Inch Broan-NuTone LB30 Kitchen Range Hood Box Liner by Jason Camarillo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Does the job - ranges, ovens and hobs

I bought this with a Broan PM390 Power Pack Hood Insert, Silver. I bought an old house with an empty wooden hood (no cupboard over the stove) and figured this liner would slide right in there, we put a fan in and that was it. I pre-downloaded all the manuals, specs, etc. that I could find on the internet. The instructions (both online and on the box) are confusing. We weren't even sure which end was up (it looks different in different drawings). My contractor had to call 800# for advice and the person told him the insert was not designed to hold a fan. He said you either have to have a closet or build a box. Basically, this liner just covers the wood, protecting it and giving it a streamlined look. After some discussion we decided to just use one insert to support the fan and it appears to be very durable. The liner is installed hole down (concave) so the bottom of the fan assembly is 4 inches above the bottom of the hood and is covered. I posted some photos. and move the switches located on the bottom of the fan assembly. I'm sure this will become automatic with use. The fan, and therefore the light, appears to sit farther (closer to the wall) than with the standard under-counter fan unit. For my situation, this liner in combination with a fan was perfect. The finished project looks very professional and costs a lot less than a custom range hood. Couldn't find a suitable cabinet to install the finished one - made a fan unit from a The cost of this liner, a very good fan unit and labor cost was less than or equal to the cost of a pre fabricated fan unit, mismatched cabinet over stove and labor cost .

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Good but not great
