Review on ๐Ÿ’ช Legion Pulse Pre Workout Supplement: Boost Energy Naturally with Nitric Oxide - Creatine Free, Beta Alanine, Citrulline, Alpha GPC - Green Apple Flavor, 21 Servings by Laura Jackson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A good pre-workout but with a lot of caffeine.

Ingredients at a glance: Caffeine is a powerful stimulant for both physical and mental alertness and performance Citrulline and Ornithine are key components of nitric oxide metabolism that reduce fatigue by increasing blood vessel size and blood flow Beta Alanine - reduces lactic acid production (reduces the burning sensation in muscles during exercise) but creates a tingling sensation in the body. Theanine - alleviates side effects of caffeine anhydrous Betaine - commonly used to treat homocystinuria, here likely used to make methionine for muscle synthesis. Additionally, multiple studies show a 34% increase in peak power with use. However, a significantly less important ingredient compared to others. Stevia: For a sweet taste to mask bitter ingredients * 3 key ingredients that really matter: caffeine, citrulline, beta-alanine Benefits: 1. Performance: Heart rate should work for most people, from weightlifters to runners/ Cyclists/other cardio enthusiasts - vascular training.2. Dosage: Contains the recommended dose (or more) of each ingredient known to improve exercise performance, while some other pre-workout brands often contain only a fraction of the recommended doses. Convenience: No need to buy and mix each one. No need to count or measure micro ingredients. Cons: 1. Cost: $39.97 for a 1.25 lb can - quite expensive. If you want to sacrifice convenience, you can buy the ingredients in bulk and make your own pre-workout for a lot less. Caffeine: 350 mg of caffeine per 2 scoops. 175 mg in 1 scoop! That's almost 4 doses of Mountain Dew in each scoop! You will develop a caffeine tolerance if you take Pulse regularly and if you feel like Pulse hasn't worked for a while (or if you think Legion somehow changed the Pulse formula, etc.) it very well might be caffeine. tolerance in reality. You can change your caffeine tolerance by taking a 13-week caffeine break, but that means you can't take Pulse (and the other caffeine-free ingredients in Pulse) during that time. However, I've decided not to deduct a star because the other two top pre-workout contributors contain equal or greater amounts of caffeine. Neutral: 1. Flavor: OK for me. Approximately 8 parts apple juice flavor, 1 part medicinal flavor and 1 part bitterness. Despite this, Pulse still tastes subjectively better than, for example, most of the whey protein blends I've tried. Also adding more water will help improve the taste.2. Tingling: This is due to the presence of beta-alanine. As people tend to star-shoot for this problem, some (less popular) pre-workout manufacturers have started removing beta-alanine from their pre-workout supplements. The tingling is harmless and beta-alanine is too good to ignore just for the tingling. Edit: It turns out that even when you no longer feel the effects of caffeine mentally/subjectively, it still enhances your performance; [Gonรงalves et al. et al. Debunking the myth that habitual caffeine intake affects performance response to an acute dose of caffeine, Journal of Applied Physiology, 2017]
