Exactly as described, this cheese slicer is great for slicing mozzarella. I haven't used it for other cheeses like cheddar yet. I was hoping to use it for slicing the large blocks of cheese I sometimes buy at Costco, but I found it wasn't long enough unless I first cut one of those blocks into multiple pieces. While this is just enough to fit in your standard 1-pound block of mozzarella, the part behind the wire where your block of cheese fits isn't much longer than a mozzarella. Reading the description I thought of the overall length which might be enough for large blocks of cheese but what you really need to consider is the length behind the wire. One of those things that seems obvious now that I have and use it, but didn't occur to me until I tried it. You cannot use it with a block of cheese longer than about 5-1/2 inches. I haven't used the other knives in the set, so I can't comment on that. I appreciate the other wires mentioned in this listing. As a final comment I would like to say that a slicing setup like this is much preferable to a manual wire cheese slicer. You can never get them to go through all the cheese and make a clean slice. With this, since the wire goes through the base into a hole in it, you can cut through the entire block of cheese. Given the semi-soft nature of mozzarella, however, you'll only get accurate, clean cuts if you semi-freeze it first. Even freshly chilled out of the fridge, the slices end up wiggling a little, and that's not the cheese cutter's fault, it's the mozzarella's.
