Amazingly powerful little computer monster

We regularly buy a mini PC in our office to test corporate network software in a controlled environment. This BMAX MaxMini B2 Mini PC seems a perfect fit for my next project and after a few days I was impressed (see my setup and first use video). I do not recommend this PC for gaming. Inside the box is a mini PC, an HDMI cable, a VESA mount adapter, and a power adapter. The device is very light, but appears to be of very high quality. I love how glossy the top cover of this mini pc is, it looks really nice but it's terrible at attracting fingerprints. The device has enough vents to keep this little beast cool. I like that the number of I/O ports on this computer is enough for both a regular work and entertainment device. The initial setup was very quick and easy, I was able to get it up and running in just a few minutes. After logging in, Windows will perform major updates, which will take some time. I suggest just letting it run for a few hours so you don't interrupt what you need to do. After the updates were complete, I was able to easily download productivity apps and office apps. This device was also able to play 4K videos without any problems. Great for media consumption. The quad-core processor handles multitasking office applications very well and I was able to load at least 4 applications with no performance degradation. 8GB of memory is the best option for office computers these days, anything below that can be a problem for multitasking. I also opened the device and there are 2 M.2 slots for this model, one of the slots (used) is M.2 SSD and the extra one is M.2 NVME. The NVME slot is great if you need a faster SSD later. I also noticed that this model has a 2.5 SATA bracket on the cover to install a 2.5 drive, but I couldn't find a SATA connector and it didn't have a SATA cable for expansion, but I agree as I don't plan on using a 2.5 inch disc. I intend to use this device with Linux in our labs and it is very easy to install Linux on this computer. All hardware was detected (using Linux Mint) and working properly (including Bluetooth and WiFi). In a Linux environment, everything on this computer always runs faster than Windows. Linux also has better memory management and I was able to load more apps at once without encountering any issues. In all my testing, this computer averaged around 60 degrees Celsius, which is pretty cool by today's standards considering how small the device is. So far I'm very impressed with the performance of this little beast. I intend to use this as a headless console for software development and the performance goes well beyond what I need. If you are looking for a compact office computer, this mini PC is a great option.

  • There's something to it
Cons
  • It's hard to remember, but it was
