This mattress topper has helped me get rid of shoulder discomfort when sleeping on a medium firm mattress (I sleep on my side). I also noticed slight relief from hip discomfort. How long that will take is debatable. This is not a magic miracle lid, it is about 3 inches thick after you take it out of the compression bag. It's great for an 8" deep mattress.
