See updates below. I've had it for about 4 months now and it works very well. First I plugged one into an outlet in the bathroom and the other in the hallway. Very useful in the bathroom. If I'm just taking a short break I won't turn on the overhead light, but I'll use the main light when I'm showering or reading there. The night light is not bright enough to replace the overhead light. I didn't like the light in the hallway. What I was looking for was a little more light for those late-night trips to the kitchen. So far it's fine. My problem is that the hallway is always dark and the light comes on every time I walk by, even in the middle of the day. This annoyed me because I don't like wasting energy i.e. money. This got me thinking, how much power does this thing actually use? Sure, it's an LED that doesn't consume much, but it also comes with a 24/7 monitor that's constantly checking for a heat source moving nearby. How much power does the monitor use? He must use some, right? I decided to find out. I bought a P3 International P4460 Kill A Watt EZ Power Usage Monitor a while ago but never got around to using it so I decided to give it a try. I restarted Kill A Watt, entered electricity tariffs, hooked up a night light to Kill A Watt and left it running around the first half of September. I had to unplug it every time I needed to use the outlet for something else because this setup covers a different outlet (the Kill A Watt monitor, not the night light). The short answer to "How much power does that use?" "Not really." Here are the numbers Kill A Watt EZ gave me after having a night light plugged into it for a little over a month: (Used) Time Elapsed: 842 hours (total monitoring time is just over 35 days) which means if my numbers are correct (and you can correct me if they're wrong) it's costing me a whole nickel to use a night light for a month. That's about 60 cents a year. I think I can handle it. I might even put another one back in the hallway. I've thought about doing the same test with a night light in a part of the house I never go to just to see how much just the monitoring part doesn't even turn on the light, but it doesn't seem like it anymore Being important I can still do it just for the sake of smiling and giggling, but don't hold your breath. When I do I will try to come back here and update this review I hope this will help put some mind at ease for anyone who may not be having any problems. Update: I'm deducting a star from my rating. I bought 2 units 3 years 3 months ago and while one is still working great the other started behaving about a year ago. It turns on fine, but when it's time to turn it off, it just blinks and turns back on. This happens for 3 or 4 cycles before it stays off. I had to move it to the hallway. One of the blocks I bought my mother is even worse. It does the same thing, except instead of 3-4 cycles, it stays on all the time and flashes briefly every 90-120 seconds. This is one of the reasons for the fall of the star. The other part is that they use fancy PCB screws. I opened up my mother's faulty device and by the looks of it, it looks like the diode was blown. At least the circuit board is heavily discolored there. Instead of the standard flat (-) or Phillips (+) screws, they use what looks more like a Y. We didn't have a screwdriver to loosen the screws so I couldn't try to fix them. These problems are not enough. so that I avoid this light. I actually went ahead and bought her two more to replace the faulty one and have a backup in case the other one fails. By the way, I never bothered to test the device in an unused part of the house just to check the cost of monitoring. At 5 cents a month, that seems a little trivial to me.5 To me, the stars mean there's little to no room for improvement. Therefore 4 stars. Last updated on 10/28/19 The second block is now scrap. This one behaves more like my mom, where it blinks for a second or two and immediately turns back on. constant. I tried turning it off for a day to let it cool down and it worked for about a week before it started flashing again, so I decided to keep going. They lasted about 2 years (still worked but blinked 3 or 4 times before going out) and the other lasted 3 1/4 years. Since they're not very expensive, I'll leave the rating at 4 stars and might even buy them again if I can't find others I like better. Do note, however, that these are most likely not the last motion-detecting night lights you'll ever need to buy.
