Review on πŸ“€ Enhanced Performance: Memorex 16x Dual Format, Double-Layer Internal DVD Drive (32023292) by David Perez

Fine while it lasted

Sometime in 2007 I bought two of these discs. One was the internal version and the other was the external USB. Both used the same disc, labeled MRX-510L. Since then I've used them fairly regularly, recording discs of all types and brands. These include various untitled RW CDs and DL DVDs from el-cheapo. Over the years, I don't think I've had more than two severe burns. Unlike other drives that can be picky about which brands they like and don't like, the Memorex drive is a reliable workhorse. But about half a year ago BOTH started to open the boxes stubbornly. They were a little lethargic at first, but no amount of convincing worked in the end. Drawers are stuck. Like forever. So it was a good run while it lasted, but these things aren't designed to last more than a few years. Doc two stars for lack of long-term reliability.
