Review on ⌚ Rugged Metal Timex Expedition Watch by Ebony Smith

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Outer dial does not rotate

This has been my favorite watch for many years. This is a classic. The coloring is great for viewing, nice big numbers. Also, I can press the stem in the middle of the night and it glows blue, making it easy for me to read the time. I always swap out the leather strap (which I find a bit tight) for a fabric spandex when I buy it, much sportier and much better in the shower because it dries faster. I always shower by the hour. No problem. Every 5 years I get a new one for various reasons, maybe not even necessary. I always change the battery myself because jewelers don't like messing with it. The back cover is average - difficult to remove, but putting it back on is a beast. I learned to press it with two pliers, left and right, with a rag so as not to scratch it. But the reason I tried to buy a new watch of the same model was because the time was slowing down and I didn't realize it was just a battery. I couldn't remove the cover. So I gave up. I got a new one from Revain and to my great disappointment the external circular spinning timer (see picture) was not spinning. I thought it was a marriage and gave it back. I use them to keep track of meal times etc. I quickly went to WM around the corner and found the same watch, and lo and behold, its outer dial didn't rotate either. I think Timex just decided to keep this as a non-functional cosmetic feature but saved money by fixing it. You never know. I wonder if these two new watches were the anomaly and not the norm? I'll never know, but I suspect Timex is cutting corners. In the end, Ms. WM pulled out her pocket knife for me, took my old watch (I had it with me), removed the cover like a pro and put in a new battery. But she couldn't put the lid back on. on the. But I took it home and did the pliers trick. My old clock is fine now and shows the exact time. Apparently the battery was really slowing down, not the watch. So if you don't care about the non-rotating outer dial then I'd give it a 5. Really good watch.
