Broke after 2 months. Good for NAS

No idea why, but it's dead. Fans spin for 2-3 seconds but nothing else. We are very sorry that we did not purchase this item now.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Mostly good, but...

Time for an update.

QNAP is a good NAS. I can't speak to all of their devices but my experience was great. I used to have 3 options. I chose this one because it had a 10GBe NIC shared with my other hardware. I wanted to implement a 1GB cache boost, but found I needed 8GB of RAM to add that size. It's in small print so I skipped it. I took an 8GB aftermarket chip and a QNAP tray that allows you to stack 2 x 500GB SSDs. I set the tray settings to RAID0 (1GB), figured out some of the complexities and everything…

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Incredible price

Great Price for a Rackmount NAS

Works great, QNAP GUI is user-friendly, DDR3 memory is easily upgradeable to 8GB, I wish it supported VMs, but for the price it's not in the way

Pros
  • Nice
Cons
  • There are more interesting options.

Died After 9 Months

As others have said, my device died after 9 months. Nothing bad to say, I love the product. I just wish it was better. Qnap did an RMA for me. It took about 1 week until I got a new device. They sent me a new one in a box. I had 4 drives in RAID 5 and was afraid I would lose my data. I connected them all, updated the firmware and that's it. Just like I left it. I just wish I could trust it. This is a replacement for a 5 year old freehub I assembled with random parts that were more reliable.

Pros
  • A Dream Come True
Cons
  • Secret

The processor is 32 bit and incredibly low power

It's stable, it works great for file storage, but everything else is incredibly slow: 130Mbps top speed with 10GB due to a spinning hard drive. SSD gets 300 MBit/s

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Sad hardware

NAS with good performance for advanced home users or SMBs

This is a new late 2017/early 2018 rackmount NAS that I bought. The device arrived in a box with two foam inserts for protection. Nothing fantastic. It came with rack mounting kits that fit a standard 19" rack, with two pullers that can be easily rack mounted and removed. I connected this NAS to four 4TB Western Digital NAS drives. Installation wasn't difficult, but it took overnight to fully initialize the entire setup to RAID 5 with encryption enabled. Very good quality and low noise fans…

Pros
  • great product
Cons
  • Something different

Get an extended warranty or another NAS

Despite some other reviews, I decided to take a chance and buy this NAS. It had many of the features I wanted and was cheap compared to other rackmount options. Like many others, mine died a few years later. The only sign of life were the connection displays of the two network cards. To get my data back, I now have the option to repair or upgrade a new compatible QNAP NAS. I think that even with cloud backup, I would need a QNAP product to decrypt and restore my data. I opted for the renovation

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Expensive

Not very reliable for computers and accessories

I've been a Synology NAS user for a long time and for the most part I'm very happy with Synology. I figured the last few generations of QNAP NAS offered better value than their Synology cousins, so I moved on and have had 3 QNAP NAS since then. I have a TVS-1282 along with a TS-431XeU that I wanted to use as a backup. I was interested in the TS-431XeU because of the 10GBe connection, along with the usual gigabit ports and short body. I upgraded the RAM and installed it in my rack. The first…
