Despite some other reviews, I decided to take a chance and buy this NAS. It had many of the features I wanted and was cheap compared to other rackmount options. Like many others, mine died a few years later. The only sign of life were the connection displays of the two network cards. To get my data back, I now have the option to repair or upgrade a new compatible QNAP NAS. I think that even with cloud backup, I would need a QNAP product to decrypt and restore my data. I opted for the renovation as it was the cheapest solution. Some people seem to have a working model so I'm hoping it will last when I get mine back. I was happy with the product while it was working and after the memory upgrade. The minimal 2GB is hardly needed for anything other than copying files. QNAP, like other companies, overwhelms its storage. I upgraded the memory myself for $33; The price difference between the 2GB and 8GB offerings is currently $130. If you decide to purchase this model, choose an extended warranty and explore data backup options that don't require any of QNAP's proprietary technologies.
