This is my second DLC-10, now DLC-10SY (7 cups). My last gave me such good value 15 years before the shells cracked. The cost of a shell set is almost the same as the cost of a new one, so it's a no-brainer. Now I have spare blades, a knife. I've compared this to the Cuisinart FP-8SV which is an 8 cup unit but really no comparison. The 8 seems weak and cheap compared to the 10. The 10 has a much more powerful (and heavier) motor and is covered by a much longer warranty. Importantly, the 10's feed tube is much wider. The locking mechanism has also been improved. Removing the feed tube on the old 10 was a bit confusing and inconvenient. The 10SY completely solves this problem, and removing and connecting the umbilical is a breeze. The 8 has no clog at all in my opinion because the delivery tube is so narrow that it's almost impossible to accidentally stick your hand or finger in the tube and cause damage. The price difference is about $30, but you get that back with the convenience of a larger feed tube, better build quality, and a longer warranty and durability.
