Review on 🌟 Enhanced Performance with Hydronix HDG CB 8 38 Carbon Filter by Brian Cheney

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Seems to do the job. There are no problems installing and using it yet. Will keep watching.

Easy to screw on. Used Dow-Corning Molykote 111 on gaskets and threads for the first time since owning an Amway E-85 system since the late 1990's. No leaks. I'm glad I saved the move from previous setups here for re-use. As others have noted, the cartridge is slightly smaller than the OEM Amway E85 and does not have an outer mesh layer. When turning on the water supply to the filter housing, I noticed ABSOLUTELY NO ejection of black carbon deposits from the filter element. The water started out with a lot of haze. I liked it. The woman claimed the water tasted slightly bitter. We started drawing clean water from the system for about 5-7 minutes. The woman said that the slightly strange taste was gone. The water was now "crystal clear" with no turbidity. So for the price and ease of purchase and delivery I'm happy for now and would buy this filter element again. (I believe Amway stopped selling these E85 replacement cartridges when the patent rights expired and counterfeit cartridges started dropping their price.) Final word. I seem to recall that the OEM E85 cartridge also had to have a little silver impregnation to kill bacteria. I don't see anything about this feature in the specs for the wide range of replacement cartridges on the market today. I doubt it's still around given the much lower prices of available substitutes. In that case, since this Hydronix unit replaced a 5 year old original Amway that was little used, I will be replacing it more often.

Pros
  • Under-table and table filter
Cons
  • Without instructions
