Review on πŸ’™ Acomdata Tango USB 2.0/eSATA 2.5-Inch SATA Hard Drive Enclosure - High-Speed External Storage Solution in Blue by Bishnu Bush

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well, for the second time, the 1st Corps failed!

The name says it all, as I have no problems with a second eSATA/USB 2.5" SATA HD enclosure from Acomdata. With eSATA in the mix I have up to 140 MB/s However, there is a caveat to be made with this connection method, it seems that this Acomdata system requires the USB system to be connected to the case along with the eSATA cable, so to use eSATA you are also using the USB, presumably for power. Now I have a fairly expensive 3.5" USB/FireWire/eSATA case (about $65 retail) that I use to back up two of my large PCs in the studio (two of these cases, one per PC), and these cases have USB power NOT required for eSATA to work 100%. Difference? The Acomdata case has NO power inside the case, that's the thing! So U SB 2.0 connectors to be plugged in for the eSATA (non-powered cable) to work at all inside it's tiny The Acomdata chassis doesn't have a power supply. it's perfect there too. That's no small feat, as the cables take up so much space inside the case that you'd think an HD case wouldn't even fit in (eSATA and dual USB cables are cumbersome!), but somehow they do , and that was it . How/why didn't the case work the first time? To be honest I don't know but it didn't help. I just finished installing some kind of HD so I asked Revain.com to trade it in and everything is fine now. I have a Western Digital Scorpio "Black" 7200RPM 2.5" Enterprise HD in this particular case and the Acomdata and WD Black setup works fantastic together, averaging almost 100MB/s from eSATA (140MB/s Peak and 70MB/s low speed (average around 100MB/s) and a solid 35MB/s with a USB 2.0 setup, commendable! The construction is solid with good materials and connectors and great cables for the eSATA and USB 2.0 -Operation.The box comes with a good "manual" and "user manual" I think for beginners as I never had to learn anything special to use the case it's very simple and easy to learn just the 2.5" SATA Install HD and you're good to go! I deducted a star for failing case 1, but other than that the installation is a winner, with nice packaging, good tooling guides/manual, cables and an easy to contact manufacturer if/if you have problems with the kit. I fully recommend it, just note the need for USB when using eSATA, that's the only caveat needed for this review. Black with silver plastic snaps on the ends looks nice and expensive, so Wavey Davey recommends this Acomdata eSATA/USB 2.0 Enclosure, ready to deal with any storage needs you might have as well as backup. !Wavey Davey - August 20, 2011
