Works in 5K, but not for quick productive work

I really wanted it to work - I hooked up my M1 Air to my iMac 27 Retina and used it as the amazing 5K display it still is. It worked, but if you plan to use Luna for work (mostly graphic design in my case), note that this is not the same as using a wired display. I connected the two machines with an ethernet cable (forget the wi-fi connection which caused a lot of lag in my case) but even with the cable there was a slight lag. I got used to it over time, but that wasn't the only problem. My mouse pointer sometimes disappeared on the connected screen, which was very annoying. I couldn't adjust the brightness of my iMac. I would have to keep the dock activated all the time as the show/hide function wouldn't work properly. Overall, I think Luna Display is the best solution available for anyone wanting to use their still very capable iMac 27 Retina display. , but the solution is not for productive work. If you're just working with email or want to display something static, that's great. But once you start zooming in and out of artboards by opening dropdown menus when mouse cursor disappears, it's very annoying. I don't know if this is software related, I have Monterey installed on both computers and I'm using a Logitech MX3 mouse. It's quite an expensive dongle and I think the price would be justified if everything worked and my iMac replaced the external monitor. I wish they would have made it one day.

Pros
  • Made my late 2011 27" iMac usable again!
Cons
  • Doesn't work at all.
