2014 F150 Supercrew FX4 Installation Instructions and Product Overview

UPDATED 05/09/17. I don't use airbags very often. But if I'm hauling with a heavy drawbar or hauling something big in the back, it's nice to be able to air the truck and raise it up. The best ventilation solution I could think of was to put a small 2.5 gallon air tank under the truck and connect it to the bumper Schrader valve. Fill the reservoir before using the pouches and you can deflate and refill multiple times with just the air in the reservoir. Just make sure there are no leaks. You end up with 2 Schrader valves, one for the bags, one for the tank. So I built a small double ended hose with a female schrader valve that I use to connect the tank to the bags immediately to fill them up. Then simply stow the hose in the truck. This eliminated the headache of installing, hooking up and plugging in the compressor, and installing a switch on the dash. I highly recommend this route if you are looking for simplicity. Hope this review helps you. I will update this review over time. I installed this kit on my 2014 f150 Supercrew FX4. I have to say that I underestimated the complexity of this setup. I'm mechanically inclined and know this truck very well, so I believe my opinion here will be of value to other people trying to install this setup on a truck with the same body. The instructions are decent, but they miss a few things. For example, what holes in the floor panels will you use to bolt the bellows. There are 4 holes, 2 round, 2 slotted, you must use one on each side. Also, the instructions for bolting the floor panel to the passenger side axle aren't as clear as they could be. Mounts and included fasteners are not of the highest quality in terms of fit, finish and strength. One of the hex bolts rounded off when I tightened it to just 30 ft-lbs. Luckily it tightened enough, but if I ever have to remove this screw it will need to be replaced. The bottom brackets have bolts welded on one side so you can bolt an extension to them for later Ford models. The back of these studs were not welded cleanly and protruded too far from the back of the bracket. I had to sand down and repaint the metal to make it fit snugly against the driver's side leaf springs. An included axle strap was too thick to fit between the brake bracket and the leaf spring bracket plate under the passenger side axle. I had to sand and repaint it significantly to get it to fit properly. What I noticed upon completion is that the bellows sit at a different angle on the axle than they do on the frame. As a result, they compress more strongly on one side. It's not a big deal and shouldn't affect performance, but I'm wondering why the top and bottom brackets weren't set parallel to each other. In general, the installation up to this point hasn't been all that complicated. It just took a bit more sanding, painting and trimming time, which I didn't expect from this kit. Took me about 3 hours with all the necessary tools just to attach suspenders and pockets. I reckon that the overhead lines will take another hour. I will update once this part is complete.
