Wanted to share my experience of using these walkie talkies on a cruise to help others in their decision making. Cruise Ship: Royal Caribbean Harmony of Seas (2nd largest ship in the world) Battery: Lasted a full day on intermittent use Compliance: No issues with shipping/loading etc Portability: They were very small so PORTABLE! Easily fits in your pocket to take with you anywhere. I was so surprised at the size! I didn't realize how much plus that was after seeing others sporting big antennas with big antennas. Kids Use: Very easy to use for kids - my 12, 10, 6 year olds have used it all over the ship with no problem - love that it didn't have a million buttons or ways to easily change settings or channels . When switching the channel, it was very audible and noticeable. Perseverance: Sand got on one of the walkie-talkies, and the same one even fell into the water (they got it very quickly) and when it left the water the sound started to muffle, but after it really dried and left the speaker down to the drain, the next day it worked again! I don't recommend it but I was very satisfied. Good feature: no noise! I was so worried my kids would bother people with it and it felt so good not to hear that noise. Also, the antenna was non-detachable, rigid and not easy to break - and it's short, which I think contributed to its durability. Range: This was KEY for me, I was so concerned about range. I was on the 8th floor in the middle of the ship and in the cabins I really couldn't get too far from my room on the ship. My kids walked the decks and elevators and it disappeared pretty quickly. BUT I found that it doesn't really matter. When I wanted to speak to them, I just entered the elevator area and it went a long way. I could reach them up to 8 floors if they were on the same side of the ship or in the middle of the ship. Before people worry about this, we created a system that assumes that if the other person doesn't answer, the other person can't hear you and move around. It worked really well. It wasn't perfect, but I haven't had any instances where I couldn't get my kids to respond after the move. REMEMBER - I was on the second largest ship in the WORLD! That's not bad given the massive size, floors and number of people! We also used it in Haiti and my kids went mountain ziplining while I watched on the beach and I could hear them perfectly! Interference: About 5 times a week we had interference and if we changed the channel it fixed it or it was just a random conversation from another person. It really wasn't a problem. All in all, if you have a little patience for it to work, it will work. I also had a backup tape system in the room in case they failed, but they never did. I really liked the portability and ease of use for kids.
