Used these on a cruise. Great!

Bought 4 for a Navigator of the Seas cruise. They worked really well and kept our group connected. They also worked great from ship to island when we were on the upper deck or in a windjammer. Because of their compact size and light weight, we were able to attach them to our lines, which proved particularly useful as the ship is noisy and noisy. Some of the calls would have been missed if the walkie-talkie got stuck in the trash or in a bag. Actually there is nothing bad to say about it…

  • This is amazing
Cons

Excellent performance, excellent value for money

These radios work very well, much better than all FRS radios and most GMRS radios. The HF range is good and powerful for such a small size. Very practical to have at hand quickly. Simple controls make it easy to use. And for the price, it's excellent value for money. So much so that I'll be buying more, especially as I've already "lost" 2 of these to my kids! It comes with an odd set of pre-programmed channels so I re-programmed 14 FRS simplex channels which are perfect for these radios. Now…

Works in a 17-story high-rise building with a garage.

I bought these for security in a 17 story high rise building with attached garage and two apartments. I have no problems with distance and/or communication across floors. It gets a little static on the 16th and 17th floors, but that's about it. Because they operate at the same bandwidth and frequency as most walkie-talkies, they can be programmed to work with other Cobra, Midland, and similar devices. All you need to do is know how to find channel frequencies. A simple Google search can help. I

Great radios, but programming support needs better

These are great little radios - good value, small, light weight, with great sound quality and good range. They're also very easy to use as you can't change anything on the radio itself other than channel and volume, and you can also lock it so it can't even change the channel. The radio does not have a programming display or keypad (which helps keep costs down and makes the radios simple), but they are fully computer-programmable. Unfortunately the CD that came with the radio only contains the…

Excellent sound quality

We use FRS radios for communication between cadets at our smaller motorsport events. Maximum range required is no more than 3/4 mile, typically in line of sight with no obstructions. We've been using crappy Motorola FRS radios for years and figured that was the level of quality we stuck to for reliable radios priced at $30-$40 a piece. We also liked that they used standard AA batteries so we didn't have to worry about keeping them charged. Based on the reviews of these radios, we decided to…

Pros
  • CB and Radio
Cons
  • A newer model could have been chosen

Lightweight, easy to use, FRS included (no license)

BLACKED FOR OVERVIEW. does not require a GMRS license to use. It was a good choice if you don't need in-ear headphones and are in the countryside. 16 out of 22 popular FRS+GMRS frequencies (Checked on CHIRP). According to the Retevis website, as of November 2017, their RT-22 radios will ship with FRS frequencies under updated FCC rules, so no license is required for use. CONSTRUCTION. They were really easy. The plastic is typical of Motorola Talkabout radios; looks strong enough. The belt clip…

Pros
  • Portable audio and video device
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than others

Cruise Walkie Talkie

Wanted to share my experience of using these walkie talkies on a cruise to help others in their decision making. Cruise Ship: Royal Caribbean Harmony of Seas (2nd largest ship in the world) Battery: Lasted a full day on intermittent use Compliance: No issues with shipping/loading etc Portability: They were very small so PORTABLE! Easily fits in your pocket to take with you anywhere. I was so surprised at the size! I didn't realize how much plus that was after seeing others sporting big antennas

Pros
  • electronics
Cons
  • dull packaging
