I bought these for security in a 17 story high rise building with attached garage and two apartments. I have no problems with distance and/or communication across floors. It gets a little static on the 16th and 17th floors, but that's about it. Because they operate at the same bandwidth and frequency as most walkie-talkies, they can be programmed to work with other Cobra, Midland, and similar devices. All you need to do is know how to find channel frequencies. A simple Google search can help. I was able to download and populate radios (with no prior experience) in about 15 minutes. He spent most of his time doing research. I can confirm that these radios work perfectly with other devices. Go to the Retevis website and download the RT22 drivers and download software. There are no instructions telling you to do this. Therefore 4 stars. Overall: worth the money, buy. Pros: Light weight Large selection Comfortable to hold Battery life Easy to use when full. USB power supply. Possibility of programming from a PC. Supplied with 1 programming cable. Cons: The belt clip is flimsy and cheap, I can see it breaks easily. batteries in case of emergency. You have to program them properly.
