Gus-Gus is the end of a long line of farm cats. She's charming, but has some pretty significant behavioral quirks. Your family tree is a telephone pole, if you know what I mean. When she was a kitten, we took her from the farm my husband grew up on and gave her an incredibly feline life of luxury. We happily suffered for years at her sweet stupidity and personal space issues, although sadly, by the time she reached old age (14), she developed feline dementia and occasional bouts of extreme separation anxiety. And for separation anxiety, I include scenarios like this: Gus-Gus gets off your lap and walks around the corner of the room, and then, utterly alarmed by your sudden and inexplicable complete disappearance from this earth, he goes into epic fits of operatic screaming. and howl. Nothing helped against this increasingly strange and frustrating behavior. Screams all night We tried to put her in her own little room but she ended up removing all the fur from half her face. Kitty Valium just stoned her and screamed. We were desperate. So I grabbed the Thunder Shirt and braced myself for both the taunts of childless, wacky, middle-aged cat ladies and the inevitable disappointment of yet another failed attempt to placate Gus-Gus. I put a shirt on her. It was very easy to figure out how to teach her. She took a few staggering steps and lay on her side. She started purring and then drooling, which she does when she's happy because she's not weird enough. I left it for an hour, maybe took it off. The next evening, a few hours. Any strange behavior stopped as soon as we put the shirt on. Since then we've had a bit of a routine. Just before nightfall, she becomes nervous and moody. I pull out a shirt. She makes a half-hearted attempt to run away. I start pulling it around my chest. I make sure it's not too loose or too tight. After that she gives up and I cuddle her up to me, after which she becomes the calmest, happiest, calmest cat ever. No more worrying, no more screaming, no more sitting on your head and licking your face with a disturbingly intense tenderness. Just. Gus-Gus, Thundercat. I got caught listening to my stupid cat (THM) I looked back and I knew there was no turning back (THM) My mind was racing and I thought what I could do (THM) And I knew there was help , in something new (THM) sounds of meow pounding in my heart Gus' thunder tore me apart
